I am an astrophysicist with a doctorate, DPhil (PhD), from the University of Oxford, and a postdoctoral researcher at the Thüringer Landessternwarte Tautenburg. Born in Athens Greece, travelled the world and lived in 4 countries (UK, Portugal, Greece, Germany) as part of my studies and academic career. I am member of three large international collaborations, COSMOS, EMU, MeerKAT–MIGHTEE, and LOFAR. I am member of the SKA Continuum and the ngVLA Science working groups. I am also the chair of the working group Radio Galaxy Zoo 2 – EMU. I am the lead editor and author of an edited Springer volume on ‘Data-Intensive Radio Astronomy’ (Vardoulaki, Dembska, Drabent, Hoeft; 2023, in production). I managed a team of 75 international authors contributing to the book. I am the principal investigator (PI) for COSMOS LOFAR DDT observations, and the co-lead of the citizen science project ‘Radio Galaxy Zoo – EMU’. My research is oriented around active galaxies and their relation to their environment, and how galaxies grow and evolve throughout the Universe. I am the PI of the COSMOS LOFAR DDT (48h awarded), LOFAR2.0 large project (324h; decision pending) and COSMOS LBA commissioning (12h; decision pending) proposals. I am the PI of the future LOFAR2.0-Greece station. Talks have started in September 2022 and the creation of the station is welcomed by the director of the International LOFAR telescope. A Greek team has been assembled and we are in the process of writing a white paper and investigating funding opportunities.
I am a passionate science communicator with her YouTube channel Rogue Astrophysics (founded 9/2017) and with articles written for the general public (a8inea.com & scinews.eu). I am a TEDx speaker, and also the founder (9/2018) and manager (9/2018-6/2020) of Astronomy on Tap Bonn. Astronomy on Tap Bonn is one of the numerous satellites around the world of the Astronomy on Tap events established in New York in 2013. In September 2020 I moved to Jena in east Germany, and launched Astronomy on Tap Jena online, due to the covid-19 pandemic.
In June 2022 I published my first public outreach book, ‘Το Σύμπαν στο τσεπάκι σου’ from Key Books. My book was nominated in 2023 for best book in the non-fiction category by the Public book awards.
In 2023 I got nominated in the international women’s GIWA awards, in the category science and technology.
