Yesterday was the season finale of Astronomy on Tap Jena! And what a finale! It ended with a blast! With us, Dr Silke Britzen (MPIfR) and Dr Gülay Gürkan (TLS)!
Season 2 will start in September 2021! Stay tuned and subscribe to AoT Jena YouTube channel for more!
A few words about yesterday’s speakers: Dr. Silke Britzen is an astronomer at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn and teaches at the University of Heidelberg. Her research interests include supermassive black holes, binary black holes and jets. In particular, she is on the hunt for supermassive black hole pairs that will eventually merge and produce the strongest gravitational wave signals. She is part of the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration.
Dr Gülay Gürkan, a postdoctoral researcher at Thüringer Landessternwarte Tautenburg. She did her bachelor at the University of Ankara, Turkey, her masters at the University of Manchester and PhD in astrophysics at the University of Hertfordshire UK. Before moving to Germany, she was a postdoc at CSIRO in Australia. Her research focuses on galaxy formation and evolution, the relation of active galaxies to their hosts, and very faint populations of radio galaxies. She is also member of the EMU and LOFAR collaborations.
